Nusa Lembongan: A Love Affair

Sometimes you arrive at places with zero foresight or expectation, and are instantly charmed beyond end.

Such is the case for Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the southeast coast of Bali. The island has a certain feel of isolation and calm, a refreshing reprieve from the mainland. But the real charm here is in it’s surroundings, which look like an editorial recreation of paradise.

Vibrant turquoise everything, sea-shell chandeliers, tasseled hammocks, white-washed furniture and woven tiki lights line roadside cafes and guesthouses.

Driving through these streets initially, I didn’t understand where such inspiration drew from, being only 8 km long and across the Badung Strait from Bali. Then I put my snorkel under water at Mangrove Point
A whole world opened of patterns and colors and iridescent hues I've never seen before. Making this mermaid-looking land suddenly make sense.

It’s hard to arrive here and not want to stay longer. It’s nearly impossible to come and not be captivated by the beauty, simplicity, and feel that is Nusa Lembongan.

You will be chill. you will be charmed. you will be lovestoned.

Walk through the Mangrove Forest to the North end of the Island. Pristine aqua waters, beachside cafes, an underwater oasis.

2. Cross the suspension bridge by motorbike

Nusa Ceningan is a tiny Island between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida that is reached by crossing the lagoon over a suspension bridge. Equally thrilling and beautiful.

3. Wind-down at Mushroom bay

During the day this little paradise is busied with boat rides and tourists. By night, its becomes a quiet delight with incredible views. On the North end of the Island, can be reached from Jungut Batu by foot or boat.

4. eat martabak

Local street food of flat Naan with veggies and sauces, flipped like an omelette and so delicious.

5. Catch a beachfront sunset at jungutbatu

Watch the sun go down along the white sand beaches and centuries old banyan trees. Have another Bintang.
